"
Regardless of the genre, medium or context, I create
work for the purpose of invoking emotion. I find excitement
and passion within the relation of colour, contrast
between light and dark and the structure of marks
and impressions within the medium."
As
a young child I experienced colours, smells and textures
associated with the artists’ studio. This artist
– my grandmother, taught me the fundamental
principals of art and design while encouraging me
to experiment and have fun.
Formal
education came later - that was a confusing time as
I had many opportunities, although I knew I was going
to be doing something visual. And as it happens –
I almost studied photography rather than design but
I did choose Graphic Design – at Niagara College
where I received a Diploma in graphic design and,
inadvertently a Diploma for General Arts and Science
– “this happened as I not only studied
graphic design while there but I enrolled in additional
classes of interest such as Parapsychology”.
I
then turned my focus to the fine Arts so I moved to
Halifax where I received my B.F.A. in Fine Art from
the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
With this academic foundation I provided services
as a freelance artist / graphic designer while also
providing private lessons and teaching at the Bedford
Elementary Academy.
Since
then I've moved back to central Ontario where I grew
up and now hold position of Art Director/Graphic Designer.
